Okapi Figure

Sculpted by hand from earthen clay and hand painted with acrylic paints, this okapi was a gift for a friend.

Okapis have a quiet grace about them that I feel reflects my friends own easy dignity. Okapis are in the same family of the most graceful creatures, the giraffe (Family Giraffidae), but hides away in the jungles of the Congo.

Their deep plum colored coats are cut with stark white stripes.

Populations of the okapi are thought to be stable at the time. However, IUCN still classifies them as Near Threatened because of increased deforestation.
